Gallery 2

For the past several days I have been looking for a gallery platform to build into the site. I have decided to use Gallery 2 as the best organizational tool for the photos I have posted in the existing gallery section of the site.

For the most part that has been what has kept me from getting to the task of posting more photos, or for that matter, taking more photos to post in the first place.

Keep your eyes peeled on the site and I'll let you know when the new section is up.

Keeping Track of Your Travels and Travel Time

For many of us the amount of time spent traveling from our homes to our vacations, or to the next place we have to go for that big conference or meeting, is just an inconvenience that we don't even want to think about, much less keep track of. For the rest of us though, that select few, who fly so often that the Security desk check-in personnel at London's Gatwick Airport know us by name (more on that later), we might just be interested in keeping track of how very much time we spend in the air.

We might even want to keep track of the countries we visit.

Well, yesterday while looking for a method of real-time logging for keeping track of my travels for both work and play, I stumbled upon this little gem:

Flight Memory enables you to easily keep track of where you have flown and then easily produce maps showing your flight routes.

We'll also tell you your total time in the air, distance flown and even keep track of aircraft types and airlines!

FlightMemory generates a logbook of your personal flights in real time. FlightMemory is great for aviation enthusiasts, flight crews, private pilots and even the casual passenger!

Whether you are a globe-trotting consultant or just starting to keep track of your newborn's flights, FlightMemory is the place to keep your statistics!

I've created a log and with the changes I have planned for the site, the log will eventually find its way into some sort of integration here on the blog.

I hope you enjoy the resource.

Down the Memory Hole

That is where the old Dave's Not Here.... has gone.

I am working on several different ideas for a new and improved Dave's Not Here....including a heavy return to photoblogging. We should maintain the greatest awareness on our sites of the things we love about blogging, and not get bogged down in everything else.

David the Dog: One Man's Best Friend

This human interest story was first brought to my attention a few days ago by an employee of mine. Dwayne is passionate about his dogs - to the point that I often wonder if they mean more to him than any person in his life.

David the dog won't leave his master's side, but his story has gone international.

Saturday, The Saginaw News featured the predicament of Richard R. "Ram" Reister, 55, of Chesaning, a disabled Army veteran who is trying to raise money for an operation to save his dog's life.

He put out fliers around town in April that read: "Attention. $10 gets your lawn cut and trimmed. Disabled vet needs work to save money to pay for surgery for my dog and best friend. Contact Ram at (989) 413-2517."

Dwayne was originally planning to donate less, but something derisive in his wife's response caused him to up the ante, much to her dismay.
Dwayne R. Machinski, 40, of Emmett called from Iraq, where he is a civilian contractor. A former Army infantryman himself, he said he has two dogs at home that he can't wait to see when he gets home. He's sending Reister $200.

"I know how expensive vet bills can be," he said. "If his dogs need help, dude, I know exactly what he's going through."

So, good on ya Dwayne, and my compliments to all of the other dog lovers out there who are helping Mr. Reister with his situation.

New Blog Canival

Every week one of my fellow bloggers and I are fortunate enough to bring you the New Blog Showcase Carnival, and every week the carnies involved do some terrific work bringing the fun and entertainment of blogging to your town. This main events are always a pleasure at any carnival, but I'm more of a sideshow kind of guy myself.

That said, I have to give it up in this review for the main event folks, and let the sideshow slip to the side.

The first time I ever went to a carnival I ended up blowing my money on the carnival games. That hazard was learned in a harsh lesson when I had no tickets later to go on the rides. The following bloggers have made an effort this week to keep new bloggers from wasting time on the carnival and using the tickets where they really count - on the rides.

Rob is blocking the attempts of the hawkers with A Comprehensive Blogging Guide.

Joshua is trying to make sure you get the most out of your blogging time at the carnival with The Top 77 Mistakes New Bloggers Make.

Courtney is trying to help you find the best seats on the Technorati built rides at the show with Technorati Bootcamp - Better Your Ranking Pronto posted at Make Money Online Free With Court.

I've never made a dime on the content of my blog, so maybe I'm just doing this whole thing wrong, or maybe Scott has something to tell us with Value Of A Blog Post. I'll let you make that determination.

Getting out of the blogging self-help area of the carnival we move through the fair to see the rest of the offerings of the day.
